Which Technical Parameters Are Needed to Classify an RF Beauty Device?

A label stating “1 MHz” or “30 W rated power” does not reconstruct the RF energy delivered to the body. Classification requires output, load, electrode, use-condition and protection data.

An RF parameter sheet is not a copy of the nameplate. It must explain how the device delivers energy under real loads and operating conditions and how temperature and abnormal risks are controlled.

1. RF generation and output

  • Nominal frequency, range and tolerance.
  • Actual power, energy or other verifiable output for each level.
  • Continuous, pulsed or modulated operation.
  • Test load, coupling medium and measurement method.
  • Start-up, stability and change during prolonged operation.

2. Electrode and handpiece structure

Record monopolar, bipolar or multipolar design, electrode number, polarity, spacing, area, material, insulation and body contact. Similar-looking handpieces may produce different current density and local heating.

3. Use and worst-case conditions

Define session time, dwell time on one area, movement speed, repetitions, body area, coupling product and environment. Tests should cover the highest allowed level, longest time and reasonably foreseeable adverse operation, not only the easiest low setting.

4. Temperature and fault protection

  • Sensor position and accuracy.
  • Over-temperature threshold and output limitation.
  • Control during poor contact, no load or handpiece separation.
  • State after software or sensor failure and restart.
  • Alarm, automatic stop and user prompts.

5. One parameter source

The master parameter table should feed the instructions, technical requirements, test protocol, risk file and marketing. App-controlled products should map every software program and version to its real output.

RF parameters only have meaning when interpreted with structure, body contact and intended purpose. No single value determines classification.
